Small Finger

Is this small cut on the finger an infection?

A small cut on the tip of a finger has healed but appears to have "spikes". 3 little "points" is how the scab has formed. The finger is real tender and it hurts to even touch it. Not much redness or any other visual indications. Just the 3 little mountains that are a few mm long? Anyone know if this is a small infection or what it is? Also the scab is a normal light brown color.

As your finger heals, the tissue around the wound actually contracts and pulls inward. That might account for the uneven texture of the scab and the "spikes". I would expect it to be tender. Your fingertips are one of the most sensitive parts on your body - they have one of the highest amounts of nerve endings. Being a little bit red is normal, too. The only time I would be concerned is if you have purulent drainage (pus) coming from the wound, or the redness and tenderness is increasing. Just keep it clean and covered. It should heal without a problem.
