I am a CNA Private Duty Nurse and want to know can I sign up to accept medical insurances from patients?

I want to do Private duty nursing on my own and wanted to know is it possible to get signed up with the major insurance companies like medicare to accept my patients payment for services from them?

Hi. I agree with the previous poster. You will need to contact each insurance company to determine if they credenital and/or contract with CNAs that are in private practice. Some insurance companies may only contract with you under certain circumstances (i.e. if you belong with a group practice that includes an MD, DO, etc.). The policies may differ by insurance company.

If the insurance company does not contract with you, you will be considered out-of-network. In this case, the patient may have out-of-network benefits and they will have a higher out of pocket amount to pay. You may work with your patients who see you as an out-of-network provider and offer them a discount, etc. to continue as your patient.

Also, I would recommend completing your credentialing information on CAQH (if you have not already) so you can send this information to the insurance companies (if you are able to contract with them and they credential CNAs). This is a requirement for most insurance companies and ultimately will save you some time from completing paperwork.
