Has my clutch or gearbox gone?

When I started my car this morning I had a real battle to get it into gear, despite the clutch being planted to the floor.
I also had a very hard time trying to get it into gear whilst in motion, no matter what gear I was trying to put it into.
Occasionally it yelled out with that lovely grinding sound when I tried to put it into gear.
My journey to work only takes 10 minutes, but I had troubles throughout the journey.
I didn't notice if the clutch was any softer, but that may only be because it's a monday morning and I'm not the most alert person in the morning.
Any suggestions on what it could be and what could be done to fix it will be much appreciated.

well turn off the car..
1.put the car on a steep hill
2.put it into gear and slowly let off the brake
3. if the car holds its position! then its gearbox passed this small test
4. now press the clutch all the way down and if the car rolls.. then your clutch is lifting properly!
5. check your fluids for sure!

if this test goes as planned then mayby you were having a rough morning! but if your car doesnt roll when u press the clutch down then its the clutch/clutch cable

if your car rolls when its on a hill in gear.. then your clutch is fried or you transmission is shot.
