Original purpose for ceiling speakers in my house?

When the house I live in was built (15 years ago), the original owners did some interesting things.. including have small ceiling speakers put into every room of the house and a large ceiling speaker installed in the dining/kitchen. I traced the wires in the attic to the wall in the dining room closest to the front door. Of course, whatever interface was there must have been drywalled over.

Was this for a security system or for music?

Pro for security:
The wires come down the wall near the front door by the phone, if there was a keypad, that was a logical place. The dining room itself is also small and not a good place for a sound system.

Pro for music:
I did not see any additional wires in the attic for security devices. There were no wires going to the backdoor or any towards windows that I could see. I would figure people would be too lazy to remove those wires and they would still be there.

I have had no knowledge/exp with either type of system. Which is more likely?

My first thought was for security, maybe one that a homeowner installs himself. Sounds like a good idea gone bad somewhere. good luck.
