If I switch to Vonage, will my ADT security system still work?
I will still have a DSL line in that the alarm can be connected to, or I can connect it to the Vonage line. Will my alarm still function? Thanks!
they recommend, and it might be in your contract with them for the central monitoring that you should keep a landline...
you can drop your landline service down to the bare minimum - pay per call type service, which should cost about $10 - and likely be the same amount of money with the phone line and DSL than just a dry loop DSL service and keep the landline only connected to the alarm, and use the vonage line for all of your voice calls...
you **can** connect your alarm system with vonage, but should make sure that your connection is good (little to no latency or jitter, and decent speed)... if you do so, you should connect your modem, and vonage adapter to a UPS power supply, and properly wire the telephone wiring to the alarm (wire must go from vonage adapter directly into the alarm before going to any other phones, then out from the alarm to the other phones/wiring inside your home)... this ensures that your alarm system is able to seize control of the telephone line in the event of an emergency situation..
